Grapevine

The grapevine (Vitis vinifera L.) is a perennial, woody, climbing plant and one of the oldest crops cultivated by humans. Most cultivated grape cultivars belong to Vitis vinifera. The fruit clusters develop on current-season shoots arising from one-year-old wood. Grapes are primarily cultivated for wine production and fresh consumption as table grapes, as well as for juice, raisins, and other grape-derived products.
